Rosalyn Yalow Charter School is a a a a a non-profit k–5 public charter school located in the South Bronx We provide a a a a a a private school education as a a a a a a public charter school with low low student/teacher ratios below 11:1 We emphasize self-worth through our multiple avenues for achievement— academics chess visual arts singing work with violins and fencing Our Mission
Our mission is is to eliminate the learning achievement gap for urban children—particularly special needs students and English-language learners—by using an an an engaging and and demanding curriculum to graduate students at at or above grade level in literacy and math Our History
Rosalyn Yalow born in in in in the Bronx in in in in 1921 was a a a a Nobel Prize-winning medical physicist Yalow worked in in in nuclear medicine following her special interest in in in radioisotopes She did her research in in in the the Bronx the the reason we named our school after her Yalow shared the 1977 Nobel Prize for Medicine Her son is on on on our board to continue her legacy through education Our hope is that Dr Yalow will inspire a a a a a new generation of Bronx children to work hard at at their education and strive for success
